Alpine ski team heads for Jay Peak Friday?
Coach Mike Minnerly?s Champlain Valley Union High Alpine ski team?s next competition will take place Friday in a seven-team giant slalom at Jay Peak.
The Redhawks? most recent outing was Jan. 9 at Cochran?s Ski Area in Richmond, where the girls took third place and boys second. Mount Mansfield Union?s teams won both divisions.
CVU?s top girl finisher in the two-run slalom was sophomore Emma Putre, who was sixth. Winner was MMU?s Ali Chivers.
In the boys? division, CVU was just 12 points behind MMU as freshman Boomer Vazquez was sixth, sophomore Ted Hadley eighth and sophomore Mark Deslauriers ninth.

CVU wrestlers eye Essex Invitational?
The prestigious Mike Baker Essex Invitational event awaits the Champlain Valley Union High wrestling team this weekend. Competition opens Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. and continues Saturday morning at 10.
Last week, coach Gunnar Olson?s Redhawks downed Middlebury Union 51-24 at the Tigers? gym.
Redhawk winners included Liam Bowley (106 pound class), Brandon Tieso (113), Alex Legg (132) and Connor Brown (160).
CVU picked up forfeit victories in four classes, while Middlebury got two forfeits.

Baseball umpires needed
?The Northern Vermont Baseball Umpires Association is looking for new baseball umpires for the 2013 season.
